From the 2018 mid-term political season to the nearing of the 2020 Presidential Election, both Republicans and Democrats have courted minority voters—citizens from traditionally underrepresented or marginalized groups—whose voices, voter turnout and electoral clout are ever-growing. Blacks, Latinx, women and LGBTQ community members make up some of the country’s largest minority voting blocs and, as such, are especially important in close races.

So, how do candidates and communicators connect with these groups in meaningful ways, and what are the best mediums to reach citizens, voters, and communities?

Regardless of political leaning, we can all respect the fast pace and meaningful engagements political candidates must conduct—online and in-person.

Our 5-person panel, moderated by Roberto Gomez Jr., Senior Vice President of MOSAIC, and 2018 AAF DC Board Member and Diversity Chair, will discuss the changing American demographic, channel activation, cultural realities, case studies, strategies and proven concepts by leading political and communication experts.

Panelists:

  • A'shanti F. Gholar – Political Director at Emerge America
  • Belén Mendoza – Vice President of Campaigns at AARP
  • Ebony Baylor – Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President for Policy / Washington Bureau Executive Director at National Urban League
  • Jim Thompson – Principal at Thompson Ryer Strategic Communications
  • Preston Mitchum – International Policy Analyst at Advocates for Youth
